Break Apart Numbers to Subtract

On Iqleel, Grade 2 students will learn to break apart numbers to subtract. They will use mental math strategies to decompose the number being subtracted into smaller parts—often to get to a ten—making the calculation easier. This approach builds procedural reliability and strengthens understanding of place value.
