Identify Initial Sounds
Match the first sound to its letter!
1st Grade - English Language Arts - Beginning, Middle and Ending Sounds
About This Skill
On Iqleel, first-grade students will practice connecting the beginning sounds of words to the letters that make them. They will see a picture of a 'sun', hear the word, and learn to select the letter 's' because it makes the /s/ sound they hear at the start. This skill builds on their phonemic awareness by linking sounds directly to symbols. This is a very important Phonics skill that is a key step in learning to decode words and read independently.
